First Fashion PR Class!

F21 Faux Leather Skirt, Scarf, H&M denim top, Madewell boots
I had my first Fashion Public Relations class today; I’m already realizing that is what I want to do when I graduate. I LOVE IT.  In class we learned about how much PR has to do with all different aspects of the fashion industry. For this class the Learning Outcomes are:
1.       Construct a press release
2.       Discern the difference between good and mediocre images for press promotion
3.       Plan a press launch
4.       Gain knowledge of essential presentation skills and how to break into the industry
5.       Gain basic styling skills.
Our first project will be a PRESS LAUNCH, with an invitation, press pack (with a press release, and a defining image), a goody bag, and refreshments. I can't wait to do the image part, we have to style and shoot an image and it must have a strong thread of identity and tie in with the invitation and release. It will also be used for editorial. I’m pretty sure Alessia is coming to London to visit in March so I can’t to work with her for my editorial!!! I’ll keep updates on this project because I know it will be my favorite!

Short Post

Just a short post for today- in Fashion Forecasting we did a little project that had to do with the whole “going green” fashion movement… We decided to come up with a line of organic cotton, milk fiber, and recycled rayon fabric lingerie for Victoria’s Secret. We said we’d set up a little area in each VS store, and our slogan would be “Soft, Sexy, & Sustainable”. And of course we’d do a commercial featuring the VS Angels…. If only this was all real. Here’s a little mood board we did just with some magazine clippings. (yes I know Campaign is spelled wrong).

Vintage shopping at Brick Lane

Here are my new VINTAGE finds from Brick Lane in London!! I got the two shirts from a private seller in the indoor market, they are from china (the labels are in Chinese!), I was clearly in a colorful mood today, and I’m excited to wear everything! Everything else I got at this great vintage store called ROCKIT. I got some LEVI’s high-waist cutoff shorts, I’ll definitely be wearing them in London with some tights underneath paired with some boots, and then on into the summer when it’s warm enough. I must have tried on a million pairs of “vintage” Levi’s at Urban Outfitters but none of them were cut right, these were perfect though. I found this colorful tote bag in a corner of the store; it will be great for traveling or going to class. I even found someone’s name in it! WEIRD, I googled her and she went to British Columbia, and she now has a Fine Arts Memorial award named after her. It’s cool to actually find some history in these pieces. I also found these two cute belts; the rainbow one jumped out at me and the Jaguar one caught my eye too. I’ll definitely pair these with my shorts or some high waist skirts. AHH so excited and proud of my new pickings J

EDIT: Just opened my Vogue SPRING/SUMMER 2011 catwalk report and found this on the first page (pat on the back for me!)

First week of classes @ LCF

Hello! So far I’ve gone to all of my classes except Fashion PR which starts next week. I’m taking British Cultural Studies, Historical and Contemporary Fashion studies, Fashion Marketing, Fashion Forecasting, Visual Merchandising, and Fashion Public Relations this semester at LCF. I’ve only been to each class once, but so far I really like all of them. In Marketing we’ll be doing a formal marketing report on a European Fashion company that we will hopefully be able to add to our business portfolio. I think I might do Topshop. I have to do some more research though. We also need to do some research for our Visual Merchandising class, because we’ll be learning to do a store audit and actually be able to create some displays on our own!
My teacher said today in VM “we need to make an environment that takes the customer on a journey through the store, so they forget where they are, and leave with a product”… I found that to be such a funny but true quote. I was in Topshop today for about two and a half hours and I bought about 4 new things. (I’ll post pictures later). I’ll continue to post things about my classes as they get more interesting!

I'm In LONDON!

It's been a while, sorry about that, but I'm back and I'm in London now studying for a semester in Fashion Merchandising and Communications at the London College of Fashion. I'm limited on Internet use, so I won't be typing too much, I'll just try to keep this updated with projects, outfits, or whatever! p.s. I don't really have a tripod here so it's very hard to take pictures of myself, I'll have to have someone help me out, or I'll just keep putting up these blurry pictures of myself. I'm going to try to step out of the box a little for my personal style, because anything goes here. It's just hard to dress crazy when I have "boring" clothes compared to Londoners! Oh well, I'll have to do some shopping, here are some of the sights I've seen, and outfits I've worn so far (that I've gotten a chance to take pictures of).
